Forward We Go

Today I didn’t progress as far as I did in my last session. I didn’t have as much time today and other things were weighing on my mind. I did get as far as doing basic gradient mapping and some more area specific gradient maps. It seems I think of color differently than intended in this process. Rather than thinking of bigger blocks of color to communicate mood, my approach is similar to a comic book, where everything can have it’s own color. I’m sure I’ll get better at this as I keep working with this process.

Gradient maps are a bit tricky. I’ve never really worked with them (only once before and I went wild). It is nice learning about some new tools in Photoshop. As I get used to gradient maps I think I will struggle less to make something that looks cohesive. The amount of adjustment you can administer with gradient maps though is quite nice. The process of color through selection gives the chance to redo some areas very quickly without big overhauls. Selections are still a bit tricky also, but it’s all slowly getting better.

I’m still happy with how this is going, but tomorrow I may jump back in and work on changing some of the colors I’ve already worked on. Right now I’m noticing that the skin could use some adjustment so that it looks more alive. It looks sort of dead right now. Her other colors are looking pretty good right now.

Once I’m past these gradient maps, which MB said would be tedious, I’ll be able to really dig in and add more details. I need to look at shoe reference pictures so that I can decide how her shoes should look.

TRUST THE PROCESS!

Plus, I’m learning this song on guitar! It’s been a good time so far.
